Grayland Avenue Tot Lot

Address: 3015 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23221, USA

Park

“They just redid this cute little playground and it's great! Below all the structures is a soft layer of turf grass, and there are baby swings, standard swings, a smaller climbing place for younger children, and an obstacle course type structure for older children. It's really nice and popular with local families. Really love what they did with it. My 3 year old and 5 year old both had a blast here. There were families with younger children while we were here as well as some older kids, so it's a space that caters to a variety of ages.”

Huguenot Flatwater - James River Park System

Bryan Park

Address: 4308 Hermitage Rd, Richmond, VA 23227, USA

Park

“A lovely city park with an outstanding topography excellent for walking and exploring. Although a little rough around the edges, Bryan Park still has a beautiful pastorial charm with touches of a past elegance not often seen in current projects dependent upon the public purse. The park is easily accessible by car, bike, or on foot, and although very close to busy interstate highways, the park provides the guest a remarkable quietness in the middle of a loud, modern city. Highly Recommended.”

The Robins Nature Center at Maymont

Address: 2201 Shields Lake Dr, Richmond, VA 23220, USA

“Greatly improved exhibits. The habitat tanks w fish and turtles are still there, but many more other regional depictions of life along the fall line. I liked how they opened everything up and created space. Using huge photographic murals and wooden surfaces, the room has become more outdoorsy and inviting to exploration, esp by children.”

From the wooden step fort of the past, to newer equipment added to playlots surrounding it. A nice pavilion stands in its midst with several tables, providing a great cool place for a picnic lunch. The playgrounds are available to the public after school hrs during the week and all day on weekends.”

“I loved it here. My boys loved it and our puppies loved it too. The walk was AMAZING !!! We're planning to go back soon to explore more. We only went on the hikes with the pups and our boys. We didn't really explore what else the park had to offer. I saw some picnic tables around the area we were passing. Some of the trees had labels on them with their native names and a mini description. In the hike there's a beautiful big pond where people fish and just sit on these nice benches and take it the scenery.”
