“We’ve been here twice now and food has been consistently good! Definitely glad we found this bistro and will keep coming back. Food is made fresh and served well, so it does take time. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The owner has been on site the two times we’ve been here and is very attentive. The triple dippers are the best and tortilla chips and dips are all made when you order and from scratch. Portions are HUGE and we had to take them home to go. You definitely get more than what you pay for. Could not recommend them enough. Adding pictures of the menu, call and order for delivery/pick up! “Gyro Joint is located in Union City, New Jersey; preparing lamb, chicken, and falafel plates and gyros. Gyro is a popular fast food in Athens and New York and Chicago. Gyro means “Turn” in the Greek language. So grilling a vertical spit of stacked meat and slicing it off as it cooks was developed firstly in Turkey, Bursa. After World War 2, with the population exchange between Turkey and Greece doner kebab was present as “Gyro” in Athens. So we can easily say that Gyro is the Greek Name for Doner Kebab. (“Doner” also means “Turning” in the Turkish language.) More than a restaurant, Gyro Joint is a “To go” gyro buffet, better for pick-ups and outside orders. There is no waiter around at all. Their lamb meat (from minced meat) tastes good. But their marinated chicken meat is better. The yellow rice, the meat, white and hot sauce is a whole meal. And they also have chicken wings as appetizers. Hummus, Tzatziki, White Sauce, and Grape Leaves are side orders. The gyro platters look like famous The Halal Guys platters, however, our editors noted that it tastes better than The Halal Guys. “the owner and staff were incredibly helpful. we had so many questions and they had so many answers while being patient with us. they let us have some samples and recommended their favorite dishes and flavors. there are sooo many worthy options. it’s so hard to choose because everything sounds delicious. we finally decided to go with the honey soy chicken waffle cone, sweet pepper waffle box, vegetable fried dumplings, blue lemonade with passion fruit tapioca, and passion fruit lemonade with regular tapioca. we enjoyed our food very much and had leftovers. everything was so flavorful. i would come back here a million times. if i can rate 10/5 stars i would. service and food were beyond amazing.”
