Ste Genevieve Museum Learning Center

Museum

“A fun place with lots of interesting things to look at. Fun for little kids to see the neat things and for old kids and adults actually interested in reading the information about the items. I wouldn't plan this place alone for a full day because we got through it pretty quick even being on a school field trip. Gift shop was a little pricey but that was to be expected from my experiences with gift shops. Definitely recommend for any Dino lovers.”

Boxcar Boutique Gift Shop

Address: 2933 Barrett Station Rd, St. Louis, MO 63122, USA

Museum

“I hadn't been here in years and it all came right back. Beautiful display and history of all kinds of transportation. The cars are absolutely beautiful. Interesting history of steam cars I actually had to scratch my head and say, what were they thinking. I loved going inside the trains and standing next to the larger ones really gives you a new respect for them. There was only 1 plane & one boat and I'm hoping they add to that mix. I believe that people have forgot this beauty of our history. It wasn't packed so it was nice to see & know you could visit history safely. Great place to visit for all ages.”

“Really cool place to visit and see how life was back in the mid-18th century. Really amazing that this place still survives to this day, and there are a lot of other houses/buildings still standing in the town that are over 200 years old.”

Beauvais-Amoureux House

Address: 327 St Marys Rd, Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670, USA

Museum

“The history down in Ste Gen is so amazing. Allegedly going back to 1735. Hard to find that kind of history this side of the Mississippi. This house is actually one of the few vertical log style houses left in the US. I believe there are only 5 and 3 are in the Ste Gen area. The tour is very quaint and community driven, which is awesome to see the local community take such pride in their history. The house itself is very nicely kept and has multiple displays. The best one being a scale model of Ste Gen during the post colonial era. The tour does cost a few bucks, but if you go to the local tourism office in downtown Ste Gen you can get a passport for $15 a person and see six different sites around town. It's good for the calendar year and will save you a little cash if you visit most the places.”

Jean Baptiste Valle House

Address: Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670, USA

Museum

“Our guide gave us a very informative tour on this historically significant home. There's only three rooms to view at the moment and not much to view in them but it's still a really neat little stop in and admission is free. You can find out what time the tours take place at the welcome center right across the street.”

World Chess Hall of Fame

Address: 4652 Maryland Ave #1, St. Louis, MO 63108, USA

Museum

“Fun, free and entertaining. If you're a chess nerd like mine this place is enjoyable and informative. But even for the casual player, the giant chessboard and "World's biggest chess piece" are worth a stop by. You can grab you a free poster and if you participate in the scavenger hunt then they offer small prizes! My kids really loved the scavenger hunt and battled it out on the board! The wife had to drag them (and me) off of it when it was time to go. Great place to grab a coffee (right next door) and play a game! It costs nothing, but if you can drop a small donation at the front desk, that is not only a polite and easy way to say thank you, it also helps keep places like this running!”

Fenton History Museum

Address: 1 Church St, Fenton, MO 63026, USA

Museum

“The little museum on Fenton's history was very interesting to finally visit. It is a little known place to find out more about the history of Fenton. You can see pictures and items from the rural past of this St. Louis suburb and learn more about it's long history. The man who was there was very friendly and willing to show you around the museum. The one problem with the place is the hours which are 10am-2pm Wednesday and Saturday which make it harder to visit than other local museums.”

Jesse James Birthplace

The attached butterfly house is stunning. It’s also warm in there which is very nice in the colder months. Just make sure their aren’t any butterflies on your clothes as you leave the area.”

Faust Historic Village

I was at the open house they have on the weekend and the volunteers that they had were helpful in showing what life was like and in informing people about the history of the buildings. It is also nice to just walk through it. While you do that there is an online guide to the buildings on the County Park website that is interesting.”

Lewis & Clark Boat House and Museum
