Brown Dog Restaurant

Address: 14 Central St, Ipswich, MA 01938, USA

Restaurant

“Nestled in the picturesque town of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Brown Dog at 14 Central St. is an exemplar of the quintessential New England bar and restaurant. If you're looking to escape Boston's hustle and bustle for the day, perhaps after a scenic tour of Crane Castle, this venue provides a soulful culinary retreat. Overall Service: 4.13/5 Foods: 4/5; Service: 4.5/5, Ambiance: 4/5, Cleanness: 4/5 If you're a seafood aficionado, you'll appreciate the quality that comes with locally-sourced produce. The award-winning clam chowder, for instance, is a revelation. The rich, velvety texture coupled with a robust blend of flavors makes it a must-try item on the menu. For those who lean more towards the land than the sea, the pizzas come highly recommended. The pies offer that sublime combination of a crisp crust and oozy, well-seasoned toppings that will have you planning your next visit before you've even left. The staff strikes the perfect balance between professionalism and local friendliness. Whether you're a seasoned regular or a first-time guest, you're made to feel as if you belong. Adding to the appeal is the charming interior. Pictures of dogs adorn the walls, a detail that particularly delighted me (I know I’m biased here), and local artwork is thoughtfully displayed, even available for purchase. The atmosphere is both inviting and comfortable, embodying the very essence of what a New England bar and restaurant should be. Areas for Improvement: While the venue scores high across multiple categories, there are areas for fine-tuning. (2) The calamari, though featuring a thin and crispy batter, could benefit from using a larger size of squid. This would enhance the textural contrast between the batter and the meat, making for a more balanced and satisfied bite into the ocean treasure. (2) Another minor hiccup was the men's restroom door, which was in need of repair during my visit.”

Fox Creek Tavern

Restaurant

“First time trying the Fox Creek Tavern. Called ahead and put my name in because it was a bit of a drive. Food was really good. I ordered the Bang Bang shrimp for an app and the BBQ steak tips for my meal. The only thing I can complain about was the green beans, they were a bit hard. Other than that everything was delicious! My mom ended up ordering the Mac and cheese grilled cheese. She enjoyed it. No complaints.”

“Charming and delicious place known for their fried clams. Inside is small but there's some seating and additional covered seating outside as well. My friend had the strip clams and onion rings which were covered perfectly with batter and fried nicely. I had the lobster roll which normally comes cold but they accommodated my request for a warm version with butter only. The clams and lobster were both sweet and delicious. Would recommend this place, good for all ages!”

1640 Hart House

Restaurant

“This place is New England! The building is one of the oldest buildings on the east cost. There is also a ghost. I didn't believe my friend and asked a few people on the wait staff about it. When I asked each person about it there face got very serious looking and then they nodded yes. Almost like they we're scared to say. I had the prime rib. It was almost as big as my head and it was maybe the best I have ever had! The bar area is my favorite place to eat in the winter. Dark, fireplace, big cozy chairs, great food and drinks.”

Clam House

Address: 2526, 2 Essex Rd, Ipswich, MA 01938, USA

Restaurant

“For those who mentioned “Greek Owned” the family is actually Albanian, and I’ve met quite a few Albanian-owner restaurants. They put their heart and passion into delivering an exceptional dining experience, ensuring customer satisfaction. Ordered fried haddock on an off exercise night, chatted with the daughter of the owner, very nice people. I was actually so hungry that I forgot to snap a beginning photo, so you’re seeing what was partially left! Delicious and fresh haddock, French fries and onion rings, typical run of the mill seafood plate in New England. Comes with a house salad. I was satiated. Place is clean too, which is always nice.”

True North Ale Company

Address: 116 County Rd, Ipswich, MA 01938, USA

Restaurant

“I really like True North. The people that work there are very nice and pleasant. They make you feel welcome. The beer is so good. I feel comfortable going there by myself for one beer. It's a relaxed atmosphere. Not like a pick up joint like most bars.”
