Waterman Gap Trail Camp

Address: Skyline to the Sea Trail, Boulder Creek, CA 95006, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Nice overall forested hike if that’s what you’re looking for. There weren’t many overlooks with views of the landscape (at least on my trail route) also this trail camp is right by a road so diminishes a bit of that secluded feeling if that’s what you seek.”

Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA Holiday

“Nice KOA. Easy in and easy out. The pull through sites are narrow but long. The site we got came with a nice patio with table and chairs, weber grill, and fire pit. They also have a nice check out policy where if no one has reserved your site on the day of checkout, you can leave at 3pm for only $30. Otherwise checkout is 11 for RVs. This was great for us as we only had a 1.5 hr drive to our next destination. For those that don't have an RV, or families that have RVs but would like other family members or friends to come in and stay, they offer a variety of cabins and tiny homes near the RV sites so everyone can still hang out. The camp store was nice, has everything you may need. A bit pricey, but what camp store isn't. They have 2 dog park areas, medium sized. Some of the sites have a decent sized dog pen too for your private use. Overall, nice park. We would stay here again.”

Campground | New Brighton State Beach

Address: New Brighton State Beach, 1500 Park Ave, Capitola, CA 95010, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“New Brighton Beach is a state park with campsite that range from basic to full hook ups. We had full hook ups with a very level spot. Access to the beach is available via trail or a short drive to the lower parking lot. The beach wasn't that great as it was packed and the water is not the cleanest on the west coast. But you are super close to Capitola or Santa Cruz so your options are vast. And obviously trails for various activities are abundant in the area. But we made the best of and had fun. Kids rode bikes around with no problems and plenty of other kids. Showers were clean and just like any other place needs quarters. Overall we will probably head back one day.”

Seacliff State Beach Parking and Campground

Address: Aptos, CA 95003, USA

“Got lucky and there was a cancelation for a two night stay. We booked it immediately. It is very hard to get a spot with hookups here. I hate the price of gas but it may bring more cancellations. This beach just brings the BP down as soon as you get there. One of my happy places.”

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park Campground

Address: 2591 Graham Hill Rd, Scotts Valley, CA 95060, USA

Campground Lodging Park

“Great place for a weekend getaway. The campsites were good size and most of them are relatively private. The bathrooms were always clean. Just bring your own soap and towels, they only stock toilet paper. And stay on the maintained trails because the brush is thick with poison oak. I was a little worried at first because I'm highly allergic to poison oak but I had no issues. Just stay on the paths. I would also definitely recommend taking the short 1 mile hike to Cable Car Beach. It's a beautiful hike to a nice place to chill in the river. Pack a picnic and enjoy the day there. (Just remember there are no dogs allowed in the river and no alcohol either)”

“First time to Santa Cruz Redwoods RV Resort... and DEFINITELY will not be the last! What a FANTASTIC first time experience. First off, the owners and all staff were SUPER friendly, always willing to answer my MANY questions about the resort, surrounding restaurants or basic RV needs. The paved roads that all interconnect made it ideal for our son to ride his bike and meet many other kids throughout the park. This is a GREAT family place to camp. We camped for two days after Christmas (it was REAL COLD) and found the convenience of staff delivering a fire pit and wood bundles (purchased for a small fee) was awesome! I cannot express how cool this place was and the staff was beyond helpful and nice! The bathrooms are nice and clean and you can tell they’re being kept up and even being renovated. Most sites are a good size and each site has sewer and electric hook ups. WiFi worked great as well. Summer will be a REALLY nice time to visit. We can’t wait!! See you soon SC Redwoods RV resort!”

Alder Trail Camp

Address: Skyline-To-The-Sea Trail Rd, Davenport, CA 95017, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Alder Camp is less than two miles from the coast. You need a reservation and spots are first come first served. Many use Alder as an final stop on the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail, but you can also park in a lot near the coast and hike/bike in from Hwy 1. (You might have to open and close the gate at Hwy 1 to access the parking lot.) Several of the spots are very close together and not very private. Fires are not allowed. There is no drinking water available. There are trash cans and a pit toilet. There are no tables. Bear boxes are available. See my panorama accompanying this Google Maps listing to get a feel. The creek runs along the campground and is easily accessible. There’s a clearing between several sites where stargazing is very possible on clear nights. Sites close to the pit toilet might have to deal with that smell. At least during dry weather, the ground is very dusty. In some places it’s so deep that it’s almost like you’re at the beach. This was perhaps the most significant downside to this campground. Note that Twin Redwoods campground is extremely close to Alder. Just a few minutes walk. Before leaving Alder I looked at Twin Redwoods and it seemed superior in terms of campsite spacing and privacy.”

“What a great campsite, ONLY WITH GOOD WEATHER, otherwise we were there during the rain and it was alright but just very went since you're in the redwoods. No one was at the place at all we say 1 car drive by in 24 hours, no hot showers, clean bathrooms and nice campground! Recommend with warmer/sunnier weather.”

“This was an interest spot. We only stayed here because Big Basin was all filled up. And I'm not sure we'd stay here again, but overall this was a fine place to go. The problem is that you have to drive over to Big Basin and pay the day use fee. The campground itself is laid out kind of wonky. More signage would be very helpful. Unfortunately, our campsite was a mudpit. It would have been nice if the camp maintenence folks could have brought in sand or pine boughs or something to make it less muddy. Also, though they said no alcohol was allowed in the campground, the young adults in the group camp area were partying it up - beer bottles plainly evident. Also, the one-way, semi-private road leading to the campground was reminiscent of the movie Deliverance. o_O Despite all that, we did manager to enjoin ourselves. There's actually a lot to do for kids. Since this area was formerly owned by HP and used as a company retreat, there's a Frisbee golf course, tennis courts, basketball courts, kids play area, and more. We did a nice 2 mile hiking loop through the second-growth redwood trees and we got to see tons of banana slugs and salamanders. And the trail connected to all the Big Basin trails so you could go much farther. Your experience may vary, but in a pinch, this was a good camp site. However, book early and stay at Big Basin if you can.”

“Very relaxing place. Beautiful trails. We stayed in cabin #29 which comes with the complete camping package, we had pretty much everything we needed. We went in end of March so nights were pretty cold and we needed the wood stove burning for warmth, but need to manage the fire or the cabin will get really hot. The staff there are really friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are kept pretty clean. If it rains, the ground can get really muddy and the hiking trails can get dangerous in some parts. Overall it was A great experience and we can't wait to go again!”

“There is no way to rate our experience, But we are rating on customer service since we are business owners.. Short story we had reservation and they are cancelled because of Mother Nature. We decide to still come to the area since we were already on our there from Sacramento. We had come to terms with being there in the rain. It was my partners bday and he wants to do some nature cleansing since we have a very stressful, demanding business. So after still going we go to ranger station and ask questions. We tell the ranger about our reservations and my partner ask about the gift shop cause he wanted replace a coffee mug from 13 yrs ago . Well it was closed on that day. We decided to hike around in the rain some small trails.. On our way back the park ranger comes looking for us and tells us that he talked to the gift shop owner and he is gonna open the shop so we can get a replacement for my partner. As a business owner this is what customer service is about.. HE did not have to offer to do this but he did. He was sorry he had to cancel our reservations and was very nice. From one business owner to another this what customer service is about. we will def be trying to go back soon. Thank you to the shop owner and the park ranger for making a bummed situation into a memorable one for my partner on his bday .”
