Joan sees everything I do, and doesn't miss a leg or hand position, but most importantly, is able to talk me into the correct position and explain why that position is important. I am amazed at her patience when my heel moves to high *again* or I grab the wrong bridle. In addition to her extensive experience, her years of riding, I would describe her patience as one of her best qualities as a teacher. She is able to explain every difficult concept of riding in a way that makes it feel achievable. She makes it easy to come into the ring every week, even when riding is hard. She fosters a camaraderie among the riders at her barn, and encourages us to learn about the individual horses and sharpen our horse sense.
