“Passing through the area between photo-shoots, and came upon this gem. Initially we went inside to stock up on snacks, but discovered the kitchen and cute 'lil dining area in the back and we just had to stop and sit a spell! The cook, Madison, turned on the tv for us and we watched Gunsmoke while she prepared our food. And the food? Par excellence! We complimented Madison on her skills, but she wouldn't hear any of it. Well Madison, you DO bring it with your skill-sets and we will be back to try your steak! If you're in the area, you owe it to yourself to give Flat Rock Country Store a try! The people are kind and helpful, and the food is awesome. :-) In my travels across the country as a photographer, I've come to realize that when you enter a store like this with weathered wooden floors, you're usually in for a special time. Flat Rock Country Store is no exception!”

“This place has cheaper gas than anyplace I’ve seen from the VA/NC line to the I-95 corridor! But that wasn’t what impressed me. I was looking for gas, primarily, but I thought I’d grab a bite to eat while I was there. After all, they had a little grill. Instead of ordering like everyone else, because I’m not really normal, I asked the lady working there what she would recommend. She recommended the cheesesteak. I said, “Then make me one like you would eat.” Brother, did she! What a terrific sandwich! The meat was cooked to perfection. The jalapeños were an unexpected contribution to the sandwich, but they way she added them was on point! Thank you all SO much for making me a terrific sandwich. I’ll see if I can stop back by there on my way home for another. :)”

“Mary the owner/operator here is running a very nice place. It is a clean facility and has safe employees who exhibit a good level of competence and friendliness at all times. The food is good at fair prices, the gasoline is usually the cheapest in the northern Dinwiddie market area, the clientele is mostly country-folk with good manners and an on-going desire to help strangers in need or trouble. Mary is adding on a new septic system in the back of the main building, which exhibits to everyone her central ethic of investing in 'plant and people', a quality that we need to have MORE of in our Country.”
