Prior to work being done, we were provided with a written estimate and explanation of the work to be done, how it would re-mediate condensation problem and suggestions for replacement equipment grades and price points. The replacement process was expedient, organized and professional. The process took about 4 1/2 hours. The weather that day was mild, so there was no urgency related to the lack of a furnace for a few hours. I have kept the furnace and water heat area open and uncluttered. “Chase Thompson, owner of KC Water Heaters, is a master plumber with a fuel gas certification. Chase replaced our two 15-year old gas water heaters with two new Bradford White tanks. The fuel gas certification is important to us since we know that a lot of houses do not have proper venting. Sure enough our old tanks had the melted plastic evidence of prior backdrafts. We spent time with him discussing various tank options as well as different configurations for plumbing setup. We decided on a "reverse return" plumbing setup as recommended by the tank manufacturer (Bradford White). We had other quotes from more well-known plumbing companies but they recommended the more well-known "parallel" or "in series" setups even with Bradford White units. I'm not sure they know "reverse return" setups. Chase installed the manufacturer-recommended plumbing setup and increased the size of the vents to properly handle the exhaust and be compliant with code. He gets city permits on his jobs. He also replaced the PRV valve which was old and not providing adequate water pressure. He was at the house for 6-7 hours and worked hard the entire time with no breaks. He is very knowledgeable and easy to speak with, and all he does is water heaters, so you're working with an expert. I highly recommend him.”

“** (Update 12/31/2018) I called first thing on Sunday, and explained that I still had a leak. I was put on the schedule for Monday. Shane (who was the original serviceman dispatched) arrived on time. He apologized for the sub-par service I had experienced, and let me know that he was going to stay until the problem was fixed. He made the appropriate repairs, all in a timely fashion, and cleaned up. I wasn't charged anything additional. I am happy that he came out and got the job done, and didn't serve me any patronizing story. A-1 will continue to be our first-call plumbing service in KC. ** *(Update 12/29/18) I'm disappointed. After years of reliable service, we had our first let down. Called on Thursday night after 5:30pm, and Shane was dispatched within 30 minutes to take a look at a leak under our kitchen sink. He did not seem confident to fix the issue without all the proper stuff, including replacing a PVC fixture with a Shark Bite. Recommended that I buy the pieces myself, to save a little money, and have the serviceman scheduled to come the next day. James came the next day and seemed very inconvenienced that Shane did not simply put more tape on the joint and call the case closed. James was at the house all of twenty minutes, taped the joint, and billed me for a full service visit (after I had already paid the night before for Shane to make no repair.) I told him that I had the pieces Shane recommended me to buy, and I thought I would have the piece replaced. He said that it wasn't that big of a deal, and that all it needed was tape. Well, I still have a leak and I'll be calling tomorrow to request they come and fix the issue. I'll update after my call.* This is the third time we've called A-1 for service since my husband and I purchased our first home in 2014. We have, and continue to experience, exceptional service from the entire A-1 team. Justin came out after 6pm on a Friday, to address a slow-draining shower drain. He was terrific! Very professional, listened to my concerns, and even offered to stay and listen to another drain issue that wasn't on the original ticket. If you want a local, really-does-care, won't overcharge, and will do whatever it takes to get the job done RIGHT, do not hesitate to call A-1.”
