Excellent place. A must see if you are in the area. A wide awaking for those of us who grew up in this period of time.

A recent addition to the over 100 year old National Museum of the U.S. Navy, the Cold War Gallery is an excellent place to visit. It is a little over a block away and provides updates to it's parent museum down the street, starting, as the name indicates, with the advent of the Cold War shortly after the end of World War II. This museum is dedicated to the activities of the US naval forces during the years of the Cold War.  It begins with the Korean War through to the Vietnam War.  Plenty of models of naval ships & planes of every era.  Finally there's a small pictorial display of a sailors life on a US submarine.

This museum is actually an annex to the Navy Museum. The attendants said they took the items they couldn't fit in the Navy Museum and placed them to the nearby building, and called it the Cold War Gallery. It indeed has many items on display, from battleship models to bombs and missiles that were in use during the Cold War era. The exhibits only focus on US Naval Defense and Intelligence, rather than a political or historical perspective. Since the museum is understaffed, it may not always be open, and in that case you can always ask for access from the Navy Museum attendants.

Attended an official event in this museum. It is not large bit it is what it says, focused on the Cold War years. There are two galleries
You should be able to go through this museum in 1 to 2 hours.

If you go here, do not miss going to the naval museum across the street. It is fantastic!

To see the Cold War museum uous must check in at the main gate at O Street and 11th.
You will go through security but tourists are welcome.

There is mo metro close by. If you go by metro you will have a pretty long walk to get to the Navy yard. It is possible to park right next to the main gate so I recommend driving.
