“Leaving the Camden Wal Mart at 10:45 pm. there were no other cars in sight. I turned left(after coming to a stop) to head toward Rt. 13. As soon as I was on Rt. 13, I noticed flashing lights behind me. I did not pull over immediately as I knew I had done nothing illegal. When it became obvious that the lights were meant for me, I pulled over onto the shoulder. The officer informed me that I had failed to use my signal when leaving Wal Mart (keep in mind that there were no other vehicles in sight). When he came back from his vehicle, he informed me that I was getting a $94.50 ticket. I asked him "Are you seriously giving me a ticket for that?" He informed me (politely) that is a moving violation. While I do realize that this was a moving violation (even if there were no other vehicles to signal to that I was turning left), aren't police officers given some leeway as to whether they issue tickets or warnings. This amount seems a little harsh for this infraction. Jay-walking is illegal as well, but you don't here of people being fined for that. It also seems a waste of taxpayers' money for a town police officer to sit at a shopping center and wait for a simple infraction to occur. I had heard that Camden officers were a bit over the top, but I just passed that off as sour grapes. I now see that "over the top" seems a bit under stated. I do respect most police officers and realize their jobs are demanding, I have lost that respect for the Camden police department and will never spend any money in that town again. ”
