“This is a beautiful observatory, and, at least when we went, it didn't appear to be one that is visited often. The drive up was amazing, and I can completely understand why people with high-performance sports cars might desire to visit. However, it was extremely foggy on our way up, so we couldn't test the performance of our rental...SUV. we essentially had the place to ourselves, and we made the most of it. We spent a lot of time reading through all of the exhibits. It was rather chilly as we went in March, and it was overcast, but we enjoyed the trip nonetheless.”

“We wanted to go to the Boucher Tower but the road was closed (Apr 12). There were also a lot of clouds in the area so we wouldn't probably see anything anyway.. So we hiked around the pond instead and spotted a couple squirrels & blackbirds there. The forest is beautiful! Day use fee is $10 for a car. Very friendly park rangers.”

“Highly recommend the trip to the top of Boucher Hill to see the view from the old fire lookout on a clear day. Plenty of diverse hikes that lead you along meadows, forests, berry patches, rivers/streams, and lots of animals and plant diversity as well. Even though it’s a small part of Palomar State Park, it has a lot to offer, including Doane Pond for fishing (although its honestly not the best stocked place but still fun casually). One of my favorite day trips away from San Diego city.”

“Great rustic place to stay in the mountains. Has a hippy vibe and lots of different accommodations. We stayed in the house with the deck overlooking gorgeous views of the valley. We drove from San Diego and it’s amazing how Palomar mountains are so close.”

“This state park is well cared for with barely no litter along well maintained roads. The oak and cedar trees are massive and absolutely beautiful. I found many areas of grinding holes in large rocks. I imagined the past presence of families grinding acorns , fishing ,and perhaps weaving baskets. The wild flowers were varied and plentiful. On the drive up I was surrounded in cloudy weather,once up top the sun shown and I looked over to see a blanket of thick clouds covering the valley below. Great day.”

“We went during a snow storm. The yurt we stayed at was spacious, beautiful, clean, warm and cozy. Service was great. I was a little worried about the roads, but every morning staff would clear the road. We will definitely return again... next time when there is no snow so we can explore the trails. Definitely recommend.”

“This place is quite the find! Never mind it’s vegetarian, it’s delicious! Indoor seating and an quaint outdoor patio under the trees. The chili, fried egg sandwich, and my salad were all delicious! They have gluten free options as well! We returned for breakfast the next day. Give the huevos rancheros a try. You won’t be disappointed and you’ll even be and feel a little healthier!”
