(June 8, 2018, 7:21 pm)Trailhead entrance located adjacent to parking lot of the boat ramp for Chowchilla area at Eastman Lake Recreation Area. This is an easy out-and-back hike of about 4.5 miles (2.25 each way. Of course, you can always turn around whenever you feel like it.) There is an elevation gain of about 261 feet but nothing too steep. Lakeside views and a small stream.
On 3.18.17, temps in the mid 70s, emerald green grass, trees beginning to sprout leaves, and large numbers of wildflowers. On this hike, we saw 2 wild turkeys, a falcon, several hawks, and numerous vultures. Later that day in the park, we saw an eagle!
This trail would probably be very hot in the summer but it would be ideal in the spring, along with winter and fall.
There are campgrounds within the park but no food or fuel locations within 20 miles.
