Lively atmosphere. Good food and value, though the cocktails are terribly overpriced, skip them. Just drink a beer or water. Skip the nutty salad, over rated. We visited this restaurant again and we were not disappointed. The tea leaf salad is awesome and we also had the garlic shrimp, the garlic eggplant (I could eat that all day) and a lamb dish. All the food was good, the staff attentive and the prices not outrageous considering how much we ate. would go there again and again.

    Warning: gross review to follow.

I love this place, it's so tasty. In fact, after my last visit, I got a migraine that made me throw up. I've never been less bothered to vomit because I got to taste this meal again.

    You're welcome for the visual!

This place has the best Sambusa soup and really tasty Tea leaf salad (surprisingly filling). The black rice pudding was not my favourite but the coconut pudding fritters were pretty good.

A friend and I made a quick detour into Oakland to check out Burma Superstar on our last trip to the bay, and it was absolutely worth the time.

The restaurant has a reputation for having excellent food and a solid dining experience and it didn't disappoint. It's in a nice part of Oakland, and if you're lucky you might just be able to find a parallel parking spot nearby! Pro Tip: Use the Yelp app to put yourself in line if you're going at a busy time! When I went, we didn't realize this was an option, but luckily we went on a weeknight and there wasn't much of a crowd so we were inside the restaurant within 10 minutes of arrival. Even if you're stuck outside for a bit, they have benches and heaters outside so you aren't uncomfortable.

Now onto the food...I can honestly say that I didn't dislike anything I had to eat at Burma Superstar (an accomplishment, I promise!). I had the Spicy Noodles as my main dish, and the Salt and Pepper Calamari as my starter -- both excellent options. The coconut rice is a nice amount of coconut flavor while maintaining the innate sweetness therein as well. One thing to note, the Samusas are NOT to be confused with Samosas (Indian). The taste is different, but I can see some relation as the execution is similar. Not a food item, but added bonus: they have coconut water in-coconut! They'll crack the coconut and add a straw for you, and at the end of the night, they'll also completely break the coconut for you to be able to eat the meat if you'd like.

Overall, I have 0 hangups in saying that Burma Superstar does live up to the hype you've been hearing about it -- go check it out!

Burmese food is unique and its own, but think of it as a combination of Chinese, Thai, and Indian. There is an abundance of coconut, curries, fish sauces, and different vegetables.

We went later in the night (around 8:30) and there was still a 25 minute wait!! Make sure to put yourself on the waitlist via Yelp prior to showing up, as the line can be upwards of 60 minutes.

Burma Superstar encourages family style. We opted for 3 plates between the two of us, though you could get away with 1 for 1. The food was very flavorful. We started with a mango salad and a noodle dish. Both came to the table with cabbage and noodles on the bottom and then were mixed by hand while explained by our waiter. It was extremely helpful seeing all of the ingredients.

We shared the sesame chicken (our safe dish) at the end and it was Superb!! I’d recommend getting something out of the ordinary here, but they do have American-Asian dishes to fall back if a friend/family isn’t as risky!
