Such knowledgeable staff takes you on a tour of this house from another era stuck in time.
We arrived by boat and walked up to the property which was challenging for some.
When the house was gifted, nothing was disturbed by the heirs.
It looks like you're peaking in while the family is out.
Especially loved the medicine cabinet stuck in time and the kids heights with dates still on the wall.
Kitchen, at the end of the tour certainly fell short, but understandably. !
Let this be a part of your Lake Geneva WI tour.
120 steps may be too high but its worth it..the estate has 4 fireplaces and everything original in it, plus they need your visit to help maintain the estate..not open in winter time..see boat tours @ Lake Geneva cruise
Beautiful Victorian "cottage" on the bluff of the south shore of Lake Geneva. Tours only available by boat cruise include the lower 2 floors and surrounding gardens. 120 steps up from the dock to the mansion, but it is worth the climb. Many original furnishings intact from 1888 make this a real treasure.
Excellent tour! The 45 minute boat ride to the estate had great commentary by the captain who really knows the beautiful and amazing mansions on the lake. Sure the 120 steps up to the house is tough but this is clearly noted in the info for the tour. The staff is great and well informed. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get a good perspective on the Lake Geneva area and it's history.
We had a lovely afternoon with our interpreter, Frank, and the other hospitable staff at Black Point Estate. It was absolutely fascinating, so well restored and so authentic. It was like going back in time for a couple of hours. Also felt like our time was well spent because we learned so much about not only Black Point, but Lake Geneva and customs and traditions of the time(s). Frank (our interpreter) infused his real-life stories of having grown up in the area, which coordinated well with the facts we were learning about the estate....and he made everything so real and understandable for us. There were 2 things we might suggest: I would have loved to see perhaps a woman's and a man's garment that might have been worn to the 3 fancy meals daily. (Just seeing a pair of woman's shoes from the time period made you shake your head, as was the men's woolen swim suit:). The other suggestion would be the chance to see a bit of the grounds...gardens, farm, and other outbuildings. All said and done, I'd go back in a heartbeat as I was fascinated by the presentation Frank gave as well as the integrity of the program in its entirety....and I can't really say I'm a history "buff". I'd also recommend this as a "must do" for anyone visiting or living in the area. Great job WI Historical Society and dedicated interpreters and volunteers. Thanks for a great outing!
