Fort Monroe National Monument

It's my destination and the way point of my morning bike ride it is 9.04 miles from my front door which give me a 18.o8 mile ride every day. I m71 yrs old now as of my last birthday. I can cover this distance in 1hr 23min on average. Not bad for an old frat. 👌 Tally ho!!! W. Out

I love the sandy beach and the proximity and privacy of the beach. It's a great hike on the walk and good swimming in the waves. I do feel a little yucky after swimming in the water though so not sure about the pollution levels or how the ocean would be different but it does save an hour instead of going across the bridge to VB. Watch out for the grass spurs. And there's pretty bird life we always see too.

Amazing day at Monroe Fort, museum, buildings and area. Very nice walking path to numbered buildings and locations. 1862, President Lincoln stayed in one of the buildings. So much history as far back as 1609. Great family time together. There is a public beach not far from the fort. Bring a picnic lunch for family and watch the red fox walking through the yards of homes.

The casement has so much history which you can see and feel.
Every time I have visited Ft. Monroe, I have experienced dolphin sightings; even this weekend. The open space is relaxing.
The fishing piers and the smell of fish is something you have to accept because people seem to be very lucky. ENJOY!!
