Musselman - Vesta Furnace

Great museum of the pig iron furnace industry that once prospered in Marietta. Worth a visit but check open hours on line. They also had some remaining tenement homes on this site. Unfortunately the old furnace buildings were destroyed. Therecare some ruins in the woods. There are some artifacts housed in the former office of Musselman. This is on the Riverlands Bike Trail that runs from Columbia to Bainbridge PA.

I like this historic site because of the work that happened here, the role this industry played in it's time and the fact that some parts of the furnace is still able to be seen. Strolling around, reading the information plaques really gets your imagination running of how thing would have been when the plant was running at full tilt.

The museum is surrounded by ruins of the Musselman-Vesta Furnace. You can picnic here and walk along the trail through the ruins to learn about the history of the area.

Very well done restoration of the paymasters office. Knowledge historian there to share the information. Worth you stop.

This is a wonderful historic preservation with many trails to follow. Travel down the road through the park and under the bridge for handicap parking in a huge paved area right along the Susquehanna river with a gorgeous view of the mountains. Family place and pet friendly
