In my days growing up "on the river" -- 1964 thru 1976 -- the island was known as Sandy Island (with Turtle Island being at the end of the river). Many learned to ski and had picnics on that island. Very cool place. Only memories left.

This is known as Ski Island by the locals... when I was a kid in the 80's this was much larger and had multiple trees on it. The last remaining tree fell in 2012. It will no longer be there in a few years.
