I have recently completed a week long tour with Adventure Kodiak and I must say it was an exceptional experience.

Throughout my life I have always had a fear of bears, so you can imagine hesitation booking a week long trip to see bears in their natural habitat.

Immediately when I arrived, Captain Mike and Ashley made me feel very welcome. I felt as if I had just left my home in Hawaii and arrived at my second home in Alaska. Shortly after stepping onto the boat I was treated to a scrumptious lunch that made me excited for dinner. After lunch we were underway for our picturesque journey through the Kodiak islands where we saw puffins, whales, dolphins, and other wildlife. At one point of our week I had even spotted a white wolf! We stopped in Halo Bay for a few days for some bear watching and then off to Geographic Harbor for more bears and other wildlife. Mike was extremely patient with me and understood and respected my fear of bears. I remember being on the skiff and we had just spotted the first bear of the trip, and I know he could tell I was anxious and was very uncomfortable. He looked at me and told me a very funny joke to help me relax. Oh how nice! Shortly after he took me on shore to look at the bears and his comfort was a contagious aura that he seemed to carry with him. After that day I remember being more and more relaxed with each passing day. After Halo Bay we went to Geographic Harbor, where in one day, we saw 19 different bears. What an incredible experience.

Ashley is quite the bundle of energy. It seems as though she never sleeps ,but at the same time has an endless supply of enthusiasm. When she is not making breakfast, lunch, or dinner, she is driving the boat, guiding bear tours, or entertaining the guests. If you have the pleasure of meeting her, I am sure she will be doing her "bear dance". When she sees the bears, she gets this communicable excitement that you can actually feel. She is dancing around sining the "I love bears" song. It is a riot! One more thing; The meals she had prepared had been better than I had ever had in any restaurant in Hawaii. I am pretty well traveled, and I am hard pressed to remember when the last time I had food this exceptional.

When you board the Single Star you will feel a sense of safety and quality. Captain Mike has had this boat for many many years and has an impeccable maintenance and safety record. Mike and Ashley know this boat so well, it seems to be an extension of them. When you go through the safety briefing for the week you get an idea of just how safety conscious both Mike and Ashley are. Mike has made numerous improvements thought the boat through the years. He is quite the craftsman. I was in the forward starboard stateroom and I was pleasantly surprised how roomy it was and what an incredible amount of storage I had for the things I had brought for the week.

If you are looking for a quality vacation to get away from it all and get back to nature, I would look no further. I will be booking again next year for another epic adventure in Kodiak!

Outstanding crew and a very lovely and comfortable ship. Captain Mike is extremely proud of his beautiful ship and he has put together an outstanding crew. Not only has he found a second captain, but Ashley is also a private chef who turns out fantastic food all day long. The ship is immaculate and stocked with the freshest of foods and all the condiments and snacks you could ask for. If you have something you can not live without feel free to bring it along. My photo trip to see the bears was great. My safety was first and foremost all the time. everything is controlled by the tides and absolutely nothing went wrong. I would highly recommend a trip with Captain Mike and his crew to see the Katmai peninsula be it bears, or fishing you will have a wonderful time.
