(January 13, 2021, 7:52 pm)If anyone is looking to start up Brazilian Jui-Jitsu, this is the right place to go. Coach Chris also has a location in Vestavia Hills which is where I go the most. Chris is an amazing coach. He is very passionate in what he does and you can tell he loves teaching others. I joined the class to teach me skills for when I join the police force. Chris has a great team also and they are definitely like a family. :) If I was staying in the state, I would be a lifer in his class.
(January 7, 2020, 5:16 pm)We took a private self defense class and it was great! The instructor (Chris) was very knowledgeable and helpful. He entertained different scenarios and situations and showed my college aged daughters how to escape different holds. He gave them ample time to practice the maneuver before moving on to a new skill. I would definitely recommend Heroes Martial Arts Academy!
(September 5, 2019, 5:03 pm)Excellent place to train. Very welcoming atmosphere and the instructors are all very down to earth, highly skilled teachers. If you’re looking for a gym where everyone is a yolked boot camp instructor with anger issues, then this is NOT the place for you. If you’re looking for a group of welcoming, unassuming, NORMAL people from all walks of life that can kill you in five seconds, then welcome home.
(July 13, 2018, 9:36 pm)Per Jason Norris... Best martial arts instructor in the state. The reality based self defense course has really helped me with my job as a law enforcement officer. The moves are simple to learn and highly effective. Every student receives the attention they need for the certain skills learned. Chris has a teaching style that makes YOU believe in yourself. His teachings are not only for self defense but life lessons.
(March 8, 2018, 11:23 am)Chris Mize and his team are not only phenomenal instructors, they are also phenomenal people. This is the only gym I have ever been to where I felt like part of the family from day one. There is no awkward standing around and waiting for someone to speak with you. From the minute you walk in, everyone is extremely welcoming and polite. I highly recommend Chris and his team to anyone looking for martial arts training in and around the Birmingham, Alabama area.
